Most of us have had the same experience with a textbook chapter. You read a page, reach the bottom, and realise you can’t say what it was about. The problem usually isn’t effort. Too much arrives at once, and there is nobody to ask when one sentence doesn’t make sense.
Explain Mode is LearningClarity’s answer to that. It is an interactive AI tutor that gives step-by-step explanations: it teaches a subtopic one short section at a time, and it waits for you before moving on.
One section at a time, at your pace
When you open a subtopic, Explain Mode gives you a short section to read. When you are ready, you select Next. There’s no timer and no wall of text. If you need to stop halfway, Resume takes you back to exactly where you left off.
Explanations and examples are also pitched at the learner’s age, so a secondary-school student and a professional studying the same topic each get an explanation that fits them.
Simplify, or go deeper
Every learner gets stuck in different places, so every section comes with two buttons:
- Simplify rephrases the current section in plainer terms. Use it when a definition is dense or full of jargon.
- Explain Further goes deeper, with more detail and examples. Use it when you understand the basics and want the full picture.
You stay in control of the depth, section by section, instead of being stuck with one level for the whole topic.
See it, ask your AI tutor, hear it
Some ideas are easier to understand as a picture. Visualize generates a clean, labelled diagram of the current concept, with labels in the language of your topic.
When something still isn’t clear, you can ask your own question about the section or ask for an example, just as you would with a human tutor. If you’d rather listen, Listen reads the current explanation aloud, which helps when you’re away from the screen or prefer learning by ear. For longer listening sessions, you can also turn a whole topic into a two-voice podcast.
Know that you’ve understood before moving on
Reading isn’t the same as understanding. That’s why Explain Mode includes Knowledge Checks: short multiple-choice questions during the explanation that confirm you’ve followed along before you continue. You get feedback on each answer, and Retry lets you have another go at any you missed.
By the end of a subtopic, you haven’t just read it. You’ve been through it, questioned it and checked yourself on it.
